Ready to push past the 500g mark? Stepping Up is a focused four-hour workshop designed for wheel throwers who are comfortable working with 400–600g of clay and want to make the jump to throwing around 1kg with more control and confidence.

Whether you've been sitting at the same weight for a while or you've been experimenting with 1kg but it's not quite coming together yet — this workshop is for you.

Across 3.5 hours of throwing time (plus a relaxed break halfway through), we'll work through the techniques that make the difference when you start sizing up: centring larger amounts of clay, pulling taller and more even walls, managing weight and stability, and adapting your approach as your forms grow.

This isn't about throwing big — it's about throwing bigger, with control. Small group (max 6), focused session, real progress.

How the Day Breaks Down

10:00	Welcome, intro and setup — what we're working on and why
10:15	Getting into it — centring larger clay, building your foundation
11:15	Pulling up — taller walls, managing weight, working with the form
12:15	Break — 30 mins to step back, chat, have a biscuit
12:45	Back to the wheel — refining, repeating, troubleshooting
13:45	Final throws, group share, questions, and clear up
14:00	Finish

• This is a practice-focused session — the aim is to throw, experiment, and build confidence rather than to take pieces home. That said, we know how it goes — if you fall in love with something, you're welcome to keep it. Clay and firing are charged at £1 per 100g for anything you choose to take away.

Refunds & Attendance

Places are limited to 6, so bookings must be paid in full at the time of registration.

If you need to cancel, please notify us in writing as soon as possible. A 10% administration fee applies to all refunds.

• 2–3 weeks before – 40% refund
• Less than 2 weeks before – no refund

You're welcome to transfer your place to another person if you can't attend.

If the workshop cannot run due to tutor availability, a suitable alternative or refund will be offered. If it is cancelled entirely, a full refund will be issued.
